To make Name That Tune more interesting to the older kids, in the last few minutes of the game, I have them think of songs that will stump me.  They tell the pianist their song, I tell them how many notes I can name that tune in, and so on.                                                                                           4/21/02

Reviewing for the Sacrament Program can get monotonous, so I tried a new idea.  I decided to play a guessing game based on pictionary.  I used  graphics off the computer and made a clue for each of the songs we're singing this year. I put the clue ( a small picture) inside a balloon and blew it up.  I chose a  child  to pop a balloon that wore the same color as the balloon. The child tried to guess what song the picture represented.  If they couldn't, then they turned to the audience for help. It broke up the monotony and helps have the children look forward to my next singing time surprise.

When we sing songs about tithing I have a bank up front with three sections, one for the Lord, one for them and for their mission.  We talk about why we should save and about how the Lord uses our money.  As we sing I award pennies for "good" singing and they put them in the bank.

We play name that tune often in our singing time. It's not only great for learning new songs (as a review) but it's fun for when there's extra time or just some free singing time

I wanted something I could use from week to week for the kids to choose a song during singing time, so I used a pattern of a pair of overalls and cut one out of wood.  I painted it and glued cloth pockets on the front.  One big one on the "bib" of the overalls and one on each side at the waist and then I added one on each knee.  I put different things in the pockets for the songs we are practicing or for free singing.  It's easy and can be used again and again.

This idea can be used over and over throughout the year for any course of study.  This was taken from the Friend several years ago and we have used it successfully during singing time.  It's called New Testament ABC's.  Make cards for each of the 24 letters in the alphabet and put questions on the back.  Have a child come up and draw a card and if they can answer the question they can either choose a song or help with a song being taught.  Here is a list of questions for the New Testament.  A- Twelve men who were chosen by Jesus, B- Town where Jesus was born, C- Those who believe in Christ, D- Those who follow Christ, E- Land where Joseph and Mary took Jesus when He was a baby, F- Fragrance brought by the Wise Men, G- Garden where Jesus prayed,
